Vidyodan is Turkey's first live commerce platform, founded as a venture by Onedio. Sellers broadcast their products in real time, buyers watch, ask questions, and purchase directly during the stream. The model, already proven in Asian markets, had not been built for Turkish e-commerce before Vidyodan.

The platform grew quickly enough to attract investment and ultimately be acquired by Getir, one of Turkey's largest technology companies. Following the acquisition, Vidyodan's live shopping experience was integrated directly into the n11 application.

The Challenge

When we started working with Vidyodan in October 2021, the platform had a working mobile app but needed to extend the live shopping experience to the web. The mobile app alone was leaving a large part of the potential audience unreached.

Beyond the web platform, Vidyodan needed the operational infrastructure to run live commerce at scale. Broadcasters needed a studio-grade panel to manage their streams, schedule broadcasts, and monitor performance. Merchants needed a panel to manage their product catalogues, orders, and sales data. Payment and cargo integrations needed to be production-grade from day one.

The engineering scope was broad and the go-to-market window was short.

What We Built

We built the web platform, the broadcaster panel, the merchant panel, and the backend integrations that the entire operation ran on.

The web platform brought the full live shopping experience to desktop and mobile browsers. Real-time video streaming, live chat, in-stream purchasing, and product discovery all worked feature-for-feature with the mobile app. Buyers could watch a broadcast, ask questions, and complete a purchase without leaving the stream.

The broadcaster panel was the operational heart of the platform. Think of YouTube Studio: stream scheduling, real-time analytics during broadcasts, product tagging, audience management, and post-broadcast performance data. Broadcasters used it to run every live session from setup to close.

The merchant panel gave sellers control over their catalogues, orders, and fulfilment. Product management, order tracking, cargo integrations, and sales reporting in one interface.

Payment integrations and cargo integrations were built to production-grade standards. A live commerce platform where checkout fails or delivery tracking breaks is not a live commerce platform. We built these integrations to handle real transaction volumes reliably.

The backend ran across Next.js, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Firebase, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Docker. The stack was shaped by the requirements: real-time video handling, high-concurrency chat, transactional payment processing, and the operational demands of running live broadcasts at scale.

The Outcome

Monthly Active Users grew by 30% in the year following the web platform launch, with most of that growth coming from the new web entry point.

Vidyodan attracted investment and was acquired by Getir. Following the acquisition, the live shopping experience we built was integrated into the n11 application, extending its reach to one of Turkey's largest e-commerce audiences.
